Dental Assistant

A Dental Assistant is someone who assists the dentist while they perform procedures on their patients. Similar to a nurse, only trained to assist the dentists. The role encompasses many facets including administration, hygiene and sterilization of equipment amongst other duties.

Students attend face to face classes on our campus four days per week- this course is considered a full time study load. The classes are a mix of theoretical learning and practical application of skills that they will use in workplace situations once graduated.

Classroom learning is supported by online content which will be also provided by SmartFutures.

What makes studying with SmartFutures different is that we will place you in one of the partnering dental practices. The placement is a total of 216 working hours and it gives the student a great advantage of the practicalities of the role and experience working in a real dental practice. This work experience is invaluable and will be a major advantage for the student upon graduation as they enter the workforce.

Students who complete this qualification can work as Dental Assistants, which is a high demand role in the dental industry in PNG and beyond.
